The Grass Is Always Greener On The Other Side Of The Fence
We live in a world focused on social comparison. How does your physical appearance measure up to others? What about your relationships, achievements, wealth, intelligence? Being better than everyone is enticing because it ensures survival of the fittest.
What are the disadvantages of The Grass Is Always Greener mindset?
Continually comparing yourself to what other people have, can, and do will diminish your confidence and self-worth. This adverse behavior will not only have a serious effect on your emotional balance and mental wellness, but will also prevent you from performing to the best of your ability at home and in the community.
How Can You Overcome The Grass is Always Greener mindset?
Step 1: Reprogram Your Mind For Achieving Success.
The ego approach stipulates that ability does not require effort. Success is achieved by outperforming others without exerting much effort, thereby demonstrating great ability.
The task approach defines success through personal improvement. This approach requires commitment, hard work, persistence, and perseverance.
During my Life’s Ride, the task approach has worked best for me.
Step 2: Develop Tunnel Vision.
Someone wrote, “The reason we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind the scenes with everyone else’s highlight reel.”
My mission is to take the tiny straw of tunnel vision in my right eye and use it to open your eyes to see what is possible in your life. One of your main jobs in life is to become an expert in dealing with adversity. Keep your thoughts on where you’re going, not on where you’ve been. Keep your eyes on your goals. Decide in advance that you will identify, confront, and overcome every obstacle. No matter what happens, don’t give up until you reach your dreams and achieve your goals.
Step 3: Add Water.
Unwind your garden hose and water your grass daily. If you want your grass to stay green, uncover your personal “blind spots” and turn the stumbling blocks in your life into stepping stones to happiness and success.
In conclusion, take what you have and make the best of it. It’s not about what happens to you, it’s about how you choose to handle the situation. Water your grass and watch your dreams and goals become reality!
